Bob Peak – Worldwide Premiere Exhibition – June 6th - 23rd

Starting June 6th at the Nucleus Gallery in Los Angeles there will be an exhibition of original art from Bob Peak. Peak (1927-1992) was a commercial illustrator who created some great movie poster designs. He started working for the studio United Artists in 1961. His first movie poster art work was for the movie "West Side Story" (1961).

Peak went on to create some beautiful movie posters for "My Fair Lady" (1964), "Camelot" (1968), "Superman" (1978), and "Apocalypse Now" (1979).

Sometimes referred to as "The Father of the Modern Movie Poster" That is the name of the subtext of this month’s exhibit. We are not so sure that we would agree with the moniker "Father of the Modern Movie Poster. Given the prominence and designs of Saul Bass and Richard Amsel they may also be in the running for that title. Regardless, Peak did have meaningful impact on movie poster design in the sixties and seventies. This should be a very cool exhibition.

We have our own favorite Bob Peak movie poster designs. These are not necessarily considered his most noteworthy or well known. We like the erotic styled movie poster for "The Comfort of Strangers" (1990). We also prefer the rare movie poster style for "Apocalypse Now" (1979).
"Oh the Horror...The Horror"!

Other favorites of ours are posters for those seminal seventies musicals: "Hair" (1979), "The Wanderer" (1967), and "Yellow Rolls Royce" (1965). Have a look below to view all the movie posters designed by Bob Peak in his illustrious and creative career.
