Framing & Mounting

Many MovieGoods customers mount and frame their movie posters. It is a great way to preserve and showcase your favorite movie art pieces.

Framing

There are a number of important issues you should be aware of when considering framing your movie poster art. If you want to protect the value of your poster, you should:

  1. Accurately measure the dimensions of your poster before framing it. You will need the exact outer dimensions as you do not want to have to cut off the border to fit into a frame that is too small - this would dramatically reduce the poster’s value.
  2. To maintain the intrinsic value of the poster, MovieGoods recommends you use "spacers", which can be found in a framing supply store. Spacers ensure that the poster does not touch the glass. Temperature and humidity changes on the glass can cause your poster to wrinkle if it is touching the glass.
  3. We also recommend that you buy an acid-free foam-core backing board in order to best preserve your movie poster. Ideally, for poster preservation, UV filtering glass should be used.
  4. Never permanently mount your poster art on any surface unless you are not concerned about maintaining the poster’s value.
  5. Using a mat can often enhance the appearance of a framed poster. Try sampling various combinations of frames and mats to find a look that pleases your eye and works well with the rest of the room where you are hanging your piece.
  6. Once you have framed your poster, hang it away from direct sunlight or fluorescent light, both of which can cause fading of the poster image.

Mounting

There are some very cool ways to mount your posters so they look very good (this of course if all you’re concerned about is showcasing your poster and not retaining the intrinsic value):

  1. The poster can be mounted on half-inch foam core. This process can also go a long way to reducing the fold lines if the poster is already folded. Foam core provides a very good way of displaying your posters.
  2. A poster can also be mounted on half-inch MDF board. The result can be even better looking and longer lasting then the foam core method.

For more information, consult a professional framing shop in your local area. Check back here often — MovieGoods will be providing poster framing and mounting services for all of your favorite movie poster art in the future!
