Nostalgic coming of age story centered on a fantasy woman. The beautiful Malena (Bellucci) inspires lust in the men and jealousy in the women of her Sicilian village in 1940. Her husband is away fighting and, because of unjustified gossip, Malena loses her teaching job and eventually turns to prostitution to support herself. Only puberty-struck 13-year-old Renato (Sulfaro) shows any interest in her plight, which becomes worse as the war drags on. Italian with subtitles.
