The Virgin Suicides
Product Details
Year: 1999
Cast: Kirsten Dunst, Kathleen Turner, James Woods, Josh Hartnett, Hanna Hall, Chelse Swain, A.J. Cook, Leslie Hayman, Danny DeVito, Scott Glenn, Jonathan Tucker, Anthony DeSimone
Directed By: Sofia Coppola
The five teenaged Lisbon sisters are all blonde, lovely, and isolated in their 70s suburban life. Mom (Turner) is a rigid religious while Dad (Woods) is a wimpy math teacher. After 13-year-old Cecilia (Hall) ties to off herself, her parents are encouraged to let the girls socialize and the story becomes the recollections of the narrator (Ribisi), one of the boys fascinated by the quintet. Much of the movie focuses on sexually provocative Lux (Dunst) and her hunky would-be beau, Trip (Hartnett). There's a floaty, listlessly romantic air to the whole production (Coppola's directorial debut), which is based on the novel by Jeffrey Eugenides.
